Day 15:  Breasts

It is said that when we were just a tiny embryo, the first things that started to spring out of that little peanut-shaped being were our fingers and hands. It appears, in those early embryo photographs, as if the fingers and hands are literally springing right out of the heart. It is easy to imagine how our heart energy is transmitted down our arms and out our hands, as well as around our entire chest, out our breasts. Some in the neo-tantra world even refer to breasts as “heart pillows.”

IMG_8749These heart pillows carry, create and transmit large amounts of energy. Sadly, breasts have often been exploited, objectified, diminished and shamed. My breasts made their first appearance at a very early age. I was teased and tormented about being large-breasted for most my life. In my 20s a boyfriend gifted me with a t-shirt that had an arrow pointing from my breasts up towards my chin/head/face. The caption read “hey buddy, I’m up here.”

For years I thought my breasts were too big. I wanted to surgically have them reduced, I wanted them to be lifted, I wanted them to be different. And then I found a lump.

I suddenly realized that my embarrassment, discomfort and non-accepting attitude about these wonderful breasts had manifested the possibility of having them taken away. My breast-attude changed rapidly. I began lavishing them with loving touch. I bought them beautiful things and I began to wear them proudly. I began creating paintings that focused largely on breasts — all types of breasts. I loudly and proudly began to celebrate breasts everywhere! My lump reduced in size, and continues to a small, benign reminder of the love I carry for my breasts.

Thought for the Day:

Breasts can get congested. Congestion may be created by a variety of sources and is often thought to be the culprit of all sorts of unwanted happenings in our breasts (i.e. lumps, cysts, pain, etc.). One simple approach is to take the same loving and intentional touch we are exploring with our yonis, and focus it on our Heart Pillows. The more energetic movement, light touch and healing focus we give to our breasts, the happier and healthier they will be. Creating an open, easy flow of energy is going to support your overall breast health, as well as energize your overall system. And, on another great sidenote, the nipple has its own circuitry that leads to the exact part of the brain that is also activated by genital stimulation. Science now shows that nipple stimulation activates the pleasure center of the brain in the very same way genital stimulation does.

Create a comfortable place to lay down on your back. Bring pillows and blankets, and get comfortable. In front of your altar is always a great place to practice.

IMG_2313Begin with some simple self-cultivation touch and breathing with your yoni. Once you are “warmed up” and feeling in touch with your 2nd chakra, place both hands over your yoni. Gently drag both hands up the center of your body, across your belly, and up between your breasts. Drag each hand simultaneously over each breast, making large circles around the outermost area, including all the way under your armpits and on the side of your body. Slide your hands around your breasts and continue to circle around each breast 8 times. Each circle motion gets a little smaller and a little smaller until the 8th circle is around your nipple/areola area. Reverse the direction and make 8 more circles, slowly getting larger and larger until you are back around to the outermost area of your breast. When your circles are complete, drag your hands back down to hold your pelvic floor and pelvic mound. Hold your genitals with a gentle compression and take 5 slow breaths. Repeat 3 times.

Daily Contemplation:

I bless the night that nourished my heart
To set the ghosts of longing free
Into the flow and figure of dream
That went to harvest from the dark
Bread for the hunger no one sees.

All that is eternal in me
Welcome the wonder of this day,
The field of brightness it creates
Offering time for each thing
To arise and illuminate.

I place on the altar of dawn:
The quiet loyalty of breath,
The tent of thought where I shelter,
Wave of desire I am shore to
And all beauty drawn to the eye.

May my mind come alive today
To the invisible geography
That invites me to new frontiers,
To break the dead shell of yesterdays,
To risk being disturbed and changed.

May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.
