Day 7: Taking It Internal

10488167_10152618521299810_5469217747216741587_nEach time we approach our sexual center with clear intention and a consciousness of cultivating that energy for our overall vitality, wellness and health, we expand our capacity to receive, open to pleasure, and open our hearts. There is now scientific evidence to support the spiritual practice of utilizing our sexual pleasure and energy for overall wellness. In the book Vagina: A New Biography by Naomi Wolf, she explains in great detail the science behind such a claim. In this course, we are experiencing that claim in our own bodies.

Thought for the Day:

We often think of the clitoris as the “little pearl” that is at the top of the outer vulva. However, this is just the beginning. Ian Kerner, author of She Comes First, explains that the clitoris alone has 18 different parts. These parts include the shaft of the clitoris, the glans, legs, bulb, clitoral cluster and the clitoral neural network that runs around the urethra, down through the mouth of the vagina and continues on to the anus. The pleasure portion of our vagina is laced throughout the entire area. The energy of our clitoral network runs deep. In traditional masturbation or sex we often skip right over all the more subtle energetics of what is happening internally, and often focus on getting to the big-O. Our practice here is to become far more acquainted with the subtleties, and to let the orgasms happen if they do and not be concerned if they don’t.

Practice:

DSCN2725Continuing from where we left off yesterday, find your private place. Bring your mirror, towel and coconut oil or lube. Today we are going to explore a little deeper. Start with the slow warm-up from yesterday. Give yourself plenty of time to activate your second chakra, and allow your internal yoni to organically open and relax.

When you are ready, gently pull your inner lips apart and take a look at how deeply you can or cannot see into your yoni. Every yoni will be different, and so it is impossible for me to say exactly what you will see next. Some yonis look rather “full” of fleshy, soft tissue, and you will be unable to see very deeply. Other yonis have less flesh at the opening, and you may be able to see quite deeply into the cave-like opening of the vagina. How fleshy your yoni looks can also change from day to day, and especially from times of arousal to times of non-arousal. Much of this landscape is made of erectile tissue, just like a penis. When a woman is aroused, her yoni will “plump up” and get filled with blood. A penis can become erect in 30-120 seconds; a yoni becomes engorged in about 15-20 minutes.

Continue watching in the mirror as you explore into yoni. Let your fingers slip slightly into the canal. At first, just let your finger go in to the first knuckle and feel around the entrance. Once you feel familiar with this part of your yoni, go a little deeper. (You may wish to continue to explore only the outside and save the inside for another day.)

IMG_0035Once inside, you will likely feel lots of soft, squishy flesh. You can now look for your “sacred spot.” The medical field uses the term “g-spot,” as it is named after Doctor Grafenberg, who is said to have “discovered” it. I prefer the tantric term “sacred spot.” You may notice that when you are sexually excited this spot will expand, engorge, move around and can even push forward in a way that it may become visible at the opening.

This is primarily a visual exploration. Continue to watch in the mirror as you navigate and move all the parts of your external yoni. Hold you inner lips open and squeeze your yoni muscles. Notice how much movement there is visual, and feel how strong the actual grip of that entrance muscle has as well.

I’d like to suggest that you do this exercise numerous times. Become familiar with your yoni, with her sensitivities, preferences and textures. When you are complete, sit cross-legged and lean up against the wall in a straight posture. Breathe deeply, and with your left hand hold your yoni, placing your right hand over your heart. Breathe deeply from yoni to heart, and from heart to yoni. Take a few minutes to express gratitude for this Divine Mystery of yoni, and for your commitment and compassion for yourself to take this time to honor and explore your own deep and sensual self.

Daily Contemplation:

This magnificent refuge is inside you.
Enter.
Shatter the darkness that shrouds the doorway.
Be bold. Be humble.

Put away the incense and forget
the incantations they taught you.
Ask no permission from the authorities.

Close your eyes and follow your breath
to the still place that leads
to the invisible path
that leads you home.
